upGrad Digital Marketing Review 2026: MICA Certificate Fees, Format and Who It Suits

A balanced look at upGrad's digital marketing programmes, built only from upGrad's own pages as checked in September 2026. It covers fees, format and refund terms, plus who each option suits better.

Reviewing an online digital marketing programme in India
Quick answer: upGrad's main digital marketing programme is the Advanced Certificate in AI-Powered Digital Marketing & Communication from MICA. It lists a 4-month core at ₹84,999, or up to 11.5 months with five specialisations at ₹1,84,994, and takes 8–10 hours a week with recorded lessons plus live sessions. It suits working professionals who want a MICA-branded credential and a self-paced rhythm. If you need weekly live feedback on your own campaign work, compare it with cohort-based options first.

This review is based on upGrad's public programme pages, checked on 26 September 2026. We have not enrolled in the programme, and we do not quote student reviews, because we cannot verify them. Where a detail was not on the official page, we say so.

A note on bias: this article is published by Indian School of Skills (ISS), which runs its own marketing programme. We include ISS in the comparison with the same fields, and we point out where upGrad is the better fit.

What digital marketing courses does upGrad offer?

upGrad's digital marketing catalogue page lists several options. The ones visible when we checked were:

  • Advanced Certificate in AI-Powered Digital Marketing & Communication from MICA, with a choice of five specialisations. This is the flagship and the focus of this review.
  • Accelerated Digital Marketing Certification Program, listed as 4 months and offered at upGrad centres in many cities, including Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Gurugram and Jaipur. The catalogue page did not show its fee.
  • AI-Powered Marketing Strategies (3 months) and a Generative AI Mastery Certificate for Content Creation with Microsoft (2 months).
  • Free short courses such as Basics of Search Engine Optimization (6 hours), Basics of Search Engine Marketing (6 hours) and Introduction to Social Media Marketing (6 hours). upGrad says each gives a free certificate on completion.

Course names and line-ups change often, so check upGrad's current page before you decide.

What is the upGrad MICA digital marketing programme?

MICA is a management school in Ahmedabad known for marketing and communications. The upGrad programme is run online, with an optional two-day paid immersion on MICA's campus. Here are the key facts as listed on the official page:

What does the upGrad MICA syllabus cover?

The core covers marketing fundamentals and consumer behaviour, digital channels and metrics, building a digital presence, social media, SEO, email and mobile marketing, Meta Ads, Google Ads, programmatic and affiliate advertising, and web and app analytics. Some modules are track-specific. For example, marketing automation with agentic AI appears in the Advanced track, while media planning and IMC planning appear in the Beginner track.

The five specialisations are Performance Marketing, Digital Brand Strategy, E-commerce Management and Marketing, Social Media, Content & SEO, and Marketing Analytics and CRM. Each adds cost and about six weeks.

Listed projects include running a Meta Ads campaign, running a Google Ads campaign, analysing web data in GA4, and case studies on brands such as Zivame and RentoMojo. upGrad says 70+ tools are covered, including Google Ads, Meta Business Suite, GA4, Firebase and CleverTap.

What are the real strengths of upGrad's programme?

  • Institutional brand. A MICA certificate and executive alumni status carry weight with some employers, especially in brand and communications roles.
  • Breadth. The syllabus covers most channels a generalist will meet, from SEO to programmatic, and the specialisations let you go deeper.
  • Flexibility. 8–10 hours a week with recorded lessons fits people with demanding jobs or irregular shifts.
  • Transparent pricing. Fees for each package are published, with no-cost EMI options shown.
  • Clear placement disclaimer. The page says plainly that there is no placement guarantee, which is honest.

Weighing upGrad against a live cohort?

Put the ISS Marketing & Growth curriculum next to the upGrad MICA details above. Compare the weekly format, the portfolio capstone and the ₹69,999 fee, then decide which rhythm fits your week.

What should you check before you enrol?

None of these are deal-breakers. They are questions worth asking the upGrad counsellor.

  • Total cost with specialisations. The ₹84,999 figure is the core only. If you want Performance Marketing or Analytics depth, the price rises by roughly ₹20,000 per specialisation.
  • Refund window. The page says a refund is possible before the cohort starts, minus a ₹10,000 processing fee, and none after the programme begins. Be sure before you pay.
  • How much live feedback you get. Ask how many live sessions per week are scheduled, and whether a mentor reviews your own campaign work or only grades submissions.
  • Real ad spend. Ask whether the Meta and Google Ads projects use live budgets, sandbox accounts or simulations. This affects what you can show in a portfolio.
  • Pace. Recorded content suits disciplined learners. If you tend to stall without a fixed class time, factor that in.

Who is the upGrad MICA programme best for?

It is a sensible choice if you:

  • Work full-time and need to study at your own pace most of the week.
  • Value a named institution on your certificate, for example for an internal promotion or a move into brand roles.
  • Want optional specialisations and are comfortable paying more for them.
  • Already have a graduate degree (it is an eligibility requirement).

It may be a weaker fit if you are a fresher who needs weekly live critique to build a first portfolio, or if your budget is closer to ₹70,000 all-in.

What are the alternatives to upGrad for digital marketing?

Here is how the upGrad MICA core compares with free certificates and with the ISS programme. The same fields are used for each row.

If cost is the main constraint, start with free certificates. Our guide to free digital marketing courses with certificates explains what each proves. For a wider view of paid options, read how to choose a digital marketing course in India.

How is ISS different from upGrad?

ISS is a smaller, live-first school. The Marketing & Growth programme runs for 16 weeks with live weekend sessions and a mid-week doubt-clearing session, and asks for about 12–14 hours a week. New cohorts start on the 15th of every month.

The first six weeks, as shown on the programme page, move from foundations and job-description decoding to customer research and ICP, copywriting, two weeks of SEO (including AI search visibility), and organic social. The programme also covers paid media, email automation and AI workflows, and ends with a portfolio capstone: a full marketing teardown covering ICP, copy, SEO, paid media and funnels.

Career support covers resume, LinkedIn and portfolio review, mock interviews and job-search guidance. Like upGrad, ISS does not guarantee a job. The refund terms differ: ISS refunds 100% before Week 1 and 75% in Weeks 1–2, with no refund from Week 3. Applying is free, and you pay only after accepting an offer.

What ISS does not offer is a university or B-school brand on the certificate. If that matters to you, upGrad and MICA may be the better choice.

How should you decide?

  1. Write down your goal. A first marketing job, a switch into performance roles, or a promotion all need different proof.
  2. Check your weekly hours honestly. 8–10 flexible hours and 12–14 hours with fixed live slots are very different commitments.
  3. Ask for a sample project. What would you actually have in your portfolio at the end? See our portfolio guide for freshers for what recruiters look at.
  4. Read the refund policy before paying any deposit.
  5. Compare total cost, including specialisations, taxes and any immersion fees.

Whatever you pick, pair it with real practice. Our guides on learning Google Ads and learning Meta ads show how to get hands-on campaign experience safely.
