ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Claude: which is better for work?
None of the three wins every task, and rankings change every few months as new models ship. The more stable differences are:
- ChatGPT (OpenAI) is the most widely used general assistant, with a low-cost Go plan priced in rupees and UPI payment in India. It covers writing, analysis, image generation, voice and file uploads in one app.
- Gemini (Google) is built into Google’s products. On Google AI Pro it works inside Gmail and Docs, and the plans bundle Google One cloud storage. It suits teams that already live in Google Workspace.
- Claude (Anthropic) is popular for long documents, careful writing and coding. Paid plans include Claude Code, Anthropic’s coding agent, plus Projects for keeping files and instructions together.
If your employer already pays for one of them, or for Microsoft Copilot, start there. The best assistant is often the one approved for your company’s data.
How much do ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude cost in India?
All three have a free tier. Paid plans below are the individual plans most people compare, using official or dated sources checked in September 2026.

According to TechCrunch’s report on the launch, ChatGPT Go gives 10 times the message limits, image generations and file uploads of the free tier, plus longer memory. OpenAI has also run a promotion in India offering eligible users 12 months of Go at no charge; check OpenAI’s help centre for whether it is still open before you pay. Prices can include or exclude GST depending on the provider, so compare the final amount at checkout.

The table below is our editorial view of where each assistant’s features give it an edge, not a benchmark result. Model quality shifts with every release, so use it to decide what to test, then run the test in the next section.

On consumer plans (free and individual paid plans), all three may use your conversations to improve their models unless you change a setting. Business and enterprise plans have separate terms. Change these settings on day one:

Settings are not a licence to paste anything. Keep customer phone numbers, Aadhaar or PAN details, salary data, unreleased financials and passwords out of consumer AI tools, whatever the toggles say. If your company has an AI usage policy, it overrides personal preference.
How can you test ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude yourself?
Thirty minutes of side-by-side testing on your own work beats any comparison article, including this one. Use the free tiers, open all three in separate tabs, and paste the same prompt into each.
- Pick five real tasks from last week, with sensitive details removed. For example: reply to a client complaint; summarise a 10-page PDF into five bullets; turn a messy table into a clean one with totals; draft a LinkedIn post about a project; explain an Excel formula error.
- Write one prompt per task with context, the audience, the format and a length limit. Use the same prompt for all three.
- Score each answer from 1 to 5 on the criteria below, without looking at which tool wrote it if you can.
- Check facts and numbers yourself. Any total, date or quote the assistant gives must be verified. This catches confident mistakes early.
- Add the scores and weigh them against price and the apps you already use.

Many professionals end up using two tools: one paid assistant for daily work and a free tier of another as a second opinion on important drafts.
Which one should you choose?
- Lowest cost paid plan with UPI: ChatGPT Go at ₹399 a month, or Google AI Plus at ₹399 a month if you also want extra Google storage.
- Your team works in Gmail, Docs and Drive: Google AI Pro, or Gemini through your company’s Workspace plan.
- Long documents, careful writing, or coding with an agent: Claude Pro, which includes Claude Code.
- One general-purpose assistant for everything: ChatGPT Plus is the broadest single app.
- Not sure yet: stay on free tiers for two weeks and run the test above.

Is ChatGPT or Gemini better for work?
Neither is better for every task. ChatGPT is a strong all-round assistant with a low-cost Go plan in India. Gemini is more convenient if you work in Gmail, Docs and Drive, because Google AI Pro adds Gemini inside those apps. Test both on five of your real tasks before paying.
How much does ChatGPT cost in India?
As checked in September 2026, ChatGPT has a free tier, ChatGPT Go at 399 rupees a month and ChatGPT Plus at 1,999 rupees a month, with UPI payment available. OpenAI has also run a 12-month free Go promotion for eligible users in India, so check its help centre for current offers.
Is Gemini free in India?
Yes. Gemini has a free tier with 15 GB of Google storage. Paid plans checked in September 2026 are Google AI Plus at 399 rupees a month and Google AI Pro at 1,950 rupees a month, with higher Ultra tiers.
Does Claude have Indian rupee pricing?
Claude lists its plans in US dollars on claude.com. Claude Pro is 20 US dollars a month, or 17 US dollars a month billed annually, as checked in September 2026. Your bank converts the charge to rupees, and taxes may apply.
Do ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude use my chats for training?
On consumer plans they can, unless you change a setting. In ChatGPT turn off Improve the model for everyone under Data Controls, in Gemini turn off Keep Activity in Gemini Apps Activity, and in Claude turn off the model training setting. Business and enterprise plans follow separate terms.
Can I use ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude for confidential company work?
Only if your company allows it, ideally through a business or enterprise plan it controls. Even with training turned off, avoid pasting customer personal data, identity numbers, passwords or unreleased financial information into consumer AI tools.
