What is the average business analyst salary in India?
There is no single number. Each salary site uses a different sample, so the averages differ. Here is what three widely used sources showed when we checked them in September 2026:

A reasonable reading: a business analyst with a few years' experience in a metro city commonly earns somewhere between ₹7 lakh and ₹11 lakh a year, with a wide spread either side. PayScale's percentiles are rounded on its page, which is why the upper ends look like round numbers.
Why the gap between sources? AmbitionBox's sample is large, and over a third of it comes from IT services and consulting employees. PayScale reports base pay from people who fill in its salary survey. Indeed's figure is based on the salaries reported to it, a much smaller sample.
None of them is "the" answer, which is why we show all three side by side.
How does business analyst salary change with experience?
Experience is the biggest driver. AmbitionBox gives the clearest year-by-year view; PayScale adds entry-level figures that AmbitionBox does not show for business analysts.

Many people change title as they grow. AmbitionBox lists Senior Business Analyst separately, with a typical range of ₹15.4–17.0 lakh (average ₹16.2 lakh, 3–12 years' experience, about 48,800 salaries). Its bands for senior BAs rise from ₹13–14.4 lakh at 3–6 years to ₹20.8–22.9 lakh at 12+ years.
For freshers, note that AmbitionBox's "1–3 years" band is not a starting salary. Entry offers at large IT services firms are often lower than the averages above, while analytics roles at product companies, banks and consulting firms can be higher. Which cities pay business analysts the most?
The big metro tech hubs pay the most, but the differences between them are smaller than the differences between industries or employers.

The two sources rank cities differently. Bengaluru is at or near the top in both. A Bengaluru offer should also be read against higher rent: a ₹1 lakh difference in CTC can disappear once you account for housing and commute.

AmbitionBox also names banking as a top-paying industry for business analysts. The pattern is familiar: employers where analysis directly drives revenue, such as internet companies, banks and consulting firms, tend to pay more than large services firms that hire in volume.
What raises a business analyst's salary?
Salary sites cannot tell you why one BA earns more than another, but the skills they list and the way the bands move give useful clues. These are the levers we see most often:
- SQL and data skills. SQL is the first skill AmbitionBox lists for business analysts, and PayScale lists SQL and data analysis among skills linked to BA pay. A BA who can pull and check their own numbers is less dependent on others and easier to trust.
- Domain depth. Banking, insurance, payments and supply chain BAs who understand regulations and processes are hard to replace. Pick a domain early and go deep.
- Moving industry or employer type. The industry table above shows a gap of about ₹3–4 lakh between the lowest and highest bands at similar experience.
- Owning outcomes. "Wrote the BRD" is weaker than "requirements I wrote cut manual reconciliation time for the finance team". Track and quote the result of your work.
- Agile and product skills. Agile and project management appear among the top BA skills on AmbitionBox. BAs who run backlog refinement and write clear user stories often move towards product owner or product manager roles.
- Certification, sometimes. IIBA's Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA) is aimed at people starting out; IIBA lists it at USD 395 or less, including membership (checked September 2026). It can help you get noticed, but employers mostly pay for demonstrated work.
Business analyst vs data analyst: who earns more?
On current public data, business analysts in India report somewhat higher averages than data analysts. Part of the reason is that "business analyst" covers many mid-career people in IT services and consulting, while "data analyst" samples lean younger.

In practice, the two roles overlap heavily, especially at startups and in analytics teams where "business analyst" means someone who writes SQL and builds dashboards all day. How should you use these numbers in an offer discussion?
- Compare like with like. Match experience band, city and industry before comparing an offer to any table here.
- Separate fixed and variable pay. Salary sites mix base pay and total pay differently. Ask for the fixed component, variable bonus and benefits in writing.
- Use a range, not a single number. Quote a range backed by two sources and your own work examples.
- Check the monthly in-hand. CTC includes items such as employer PF and gratuity that do not reach your bank account each month.
